We are mighty, we are great. We’re the Class of ’68!

We started as freshmen in the fall of 1964, lots of us, the cream of the baby boomer crop. Lyndon Johnson had not been president for even a year, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys had hits on the WLS Silver Dollar Survey and we got to school by CTA, West Town Bus, Dad dropping us off on the way to work, or walking. Our parishes were St. Celestine’s, St. Cyprian’s,  Gertrude, Francis Borgia, Ferdinand’s, Beatrice, Priscilla’s, and Hillary’s - just to name a few.  Our high schools were so new, Guerin didn’t even have a senior class when we walked in on our first day of school, and HC was only a year ahead. 

    There were plenty of nuns and brothers on the faculties under the direction of Sister Frances Alma and Brother Walter Davenport. And the rules were strict, starting with our uniforms and dress codes. The big “G” on our blazers, ties that were knotted early in the school year and slipped over your head to hang in your locker until the next day. Jeans? T-shirts?  Flip-flops?  Certainly not in school.

    If the girls got caught smoking in their uniforms, even at State and Madison, they faced suspension.  Of course, the boys had smokers with their dads and the brothers...go figure.

    In October we celebrated 40 years since we walked the separate but hallowed halls of Guerin and Cross - but often we walked out of the MTG cafeteria, or went to dances and games, together.  So, this website is dedicated to keeping in touch and maybe having a celebration of our combined 60th birthdays in a little less than two years.

         We’re still looking for pictures, stories, memories and comments.
